Uvita, Costa Rica

Described by many as one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world, south western Costa Rica has plenty of beautiful beaches and fantastic vistas. Of the many spectacular beaches found here, Playa Uvita is among the most stunning beaches on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast. Located in the southern Puntarenas province roughly 16 km south of Dominical, a surfing hotspot, Playa Uvita is situated within the Marino Ballena National Park. This marine park is very popular because between the months of December and April Humpback, whales migrate here to the warm waters off the coast to mate before returning up north.
The city center here is much smaller than that of Dominical, however, the over all size is much larger as things are more spread out. All of the beaches in town are inside national park, so you must pay daily to visit them. Resteraunts vary from thai to italian to Caribbean to local dishes. If there is something you are craving, odds are you can find it here. The Surf is small, but you can catch a boat out to see the whales or snorkel at nearby Cano Island. Make sure to walk out on the famous “Whales Tail” during low tide for a unique experience.
